Conference on
International Marriage Migration in Asia

Seoul, Korea, 13-14 September 2007 First Circular
The Population Association of Korea (PAK) and the Institute of Population and Aging Research (IPAR), Hanyang University will co-organize an international conference on international marriage migration in Asia. The conference will be held at Seoul, Korea during 13-14 September 2007.
The purpose of the conference is to enhance our understanding on international marriage migration in the Asian region through theoretical consideration and empirical research. The conference explores its causes, processes and consequences at micro and macro level. We are looking for speakers to offer an informative and engaging perspective on one of the following themes:
- demographic analysis of migration stream
- motivation and process of marriage migration
- migrant´s coping strategies in the destination
- family ties and relations of migrants with their family members in home country
- socio-demographic impacts of marriage migration
- discourses on marriage migration in sending/receiving country.
Interested researchers are invited to submit an email by 17 March 2007. The email should be sent with an attached file in Word format including the following information:
- Name
- Title/position
- Current institutional affiliation
- Email, Postal address, Telephone, Fax
- A one-page CV
- A description of research activities (if any) related to the topic of conference
- Title of paper
- Abstract of paper (a summary of the paper of 250-350 words): this abstract should include the topic of your paper, its geographic coverage, its sources, the methodology used and other relevant information
♣ Notification of acceptance will be made by 16 April, 2007.
Final papers to be published as part of the conference proceedings should be submitted by 13 August 2007 (For your information, there is a plan to compile the papers of this conference into a book publication). Earlier submission is however strongly suggested in order to facilitate travel arrangements. Please note that travel arrangements will be finalized only after reception of the final paper. Successful candidates will be provided the followings:
- Accommodation for 3 nights during the conference period
- Economy-class airfare
- Waiver of conference registration fee
- (Upon request) Mailed or faxed invitation letters to support an application for a visa
